Večerna MaRSovska predavanja tradicionalno pripravijo matematiki z različnih raziskovalnih ustanov, ki na poljuden način predstavijo zanimive matematične probleme in vlogo matematike v sodobnem svetu.
Dr. Đorđe Baralić: Pascal’s Hexagrammum and Octagrammum Mysticum
We prove several generalizations of ramarkable Pascal’s theorem which states that if we draw a hexagon inscribed in a conic section then the three pairs of opposite sides of the hexagon intersect at three points which lie on a straight line – the Pascal line of the hexagon. The complete figure formed by 60 Pascal’s line has amazing properties ant it is known as Hexagrammum Mysticum. The similar results about an octagon inscribed in a conic section are known as Octagrammum Mysticum. We present an elementary combinatorial proof of those classical using Bézout’s theorem as the main tool whose application is guided by the empirical evidence and computer experiments with the program Cinderella.
About the speaker: Đorđe Baralić was born in September, 1986. He got his Ph.D from the University of Belgrade in 2013. From 2014 he has position of research assistant professor at the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. His research interests are algebraic topology, geometric combinatorics, projective and computational geometry and applied topology. After that he received two junior research fellowships at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Natiional University of Singapore in 2015 and at the Vietnam Institute for the Advanced Studies in Mathematics in 2017. Đorđe Baralić is one of the principal organizers of May Month of Mathematics in Serbia and actively involved in popularization of mathematics in several countries. He is also a lecturer at the Mathematical Grammar School in Belgrade and served five year term as the leader of JBMO team of Serbia.
